African-American Studies
Overview
The Minor in African-American Studies provides an interdisciplinary approach to exploring facets of Black culture within the United States. This program is designed to be of interest to students who want to explore the many contributions of African-Americans to the political, historical, social, and artistic fabric of the United States.
Point of Pride
The Minor in African-American Studies offers classes in a variety of disciplines, including history, political science, music, theatre, sociology, and English. Faculty work with students on an individual basis to build an African-American Studies minor that fits their specific interests.

The field of African-American studies observes the culture, history, politics, and social aspects of Black Americans.

Minors can only be declared by current Illinois State students. Current students can use the Apply to Your Program tool on My.IllinoisState.edu.
