Have a pet odor problem? We can help!

The Cleaner Image understands that your family's lovable pet can be your carpet's worst enemy. When your pet leaves their mark on your carpet or upholstery, call The Cleaner Image. We have a pet odor and pet soil removal treatment that we guarantee.

There are two types of pet soils: the newly deposited soil and the old, stale odor that secretes an offensive stench and has already penetrated the carpet fiber. These soils may be obvious to the eye with a yellowish discoloration in the fabric. Other times, a blacklight or high-intensity light may be needed to find the exact area. The extent of the damage can be determined by using a moisture sensor to determine how far down the urine has penetrated. Keep in mind that gravity pulls pet contamination down through the carpet to the padding to the subfloor, and as each layer becomes affected, the problem grows and becomes more and more complex. Oftentimes, a surface problem that appears to be small is revealed to be a much larger problem below.

When urine soils develop slowly and are noticed after time has elapsed, the dyes and carpet fibers may be permenatly damaged. In beige carpet, blue dyes are attacked by the pet urine, leaving behind the red and yellow dyes with a resulting discoloration appearing red, yellow or orange.

Pet urine, left unattended, can damage carpet in several ways. Moisture can weaken the layers of the carpet, allowing separation or delamination of the backing material. Seam areas can be particularly damaged and can separate.

Another problem, especially with cats, is odor. Unless the cat urine can be completely removed, complete odor removal is unlikely. A number of products are available to combat odor, but can simply mask the odor and in times of high humidity, the odor can reappear. Recently, enzymes, available at pet stores and vet offices, have been developed that are more effective; but they may be better used by a carpet cleaning professional. If odor can not be removed, the damaged area of carpet can be replaced with a piece from reserve scrap. If carpet replacement is necessary, then the replacement of the pad, and possibly even the subfloor may be required.

Please note that when cleaning urine soils, there is a difference between cleaning the urine soiling and treating for odor. Cleaning existing urine soils MAY NOT remove any associated odor. In fact, it could increase the odor in the air space for a temporary period of time.

Pet urine can cause permanent damage to your floors and fabrics. It will create an unhealthy indoor living space especially for those families with small kids. When urine is first deposited it is in a neutral state which means it is still in its liquid form and a lot easier to remove when fresh. Once it dries, it turns "alkaline" and becomes more difficult to remove. If left for days or weeks, depending on the fabric or floor type, it will become a permanent discoloration since the dye structure will also change permanently. Even if the soluble deposits are removed, the damage to the dye structure may already be done.

This means that no one can guarantee complete removal of all urine soils. Please consult one of our technicians if you have questionable urine soils on your carpet.

CONSUMER ALERT: No matter what anyone tells you, urine can not be removed with any cleaning method except hot water extraction (steam cleaning). This is common sense. It must be extracted from the carpet. Dry foam or shampoo methods do not extract urine. Beware of cheap cleaning methodology.

In some cases, our normal carpet cleaning process may be all that is needed. In more severe, cases effective remediation must address each layer of the problem. We have developed a specialized method for removing these difficult pet odors and soils. When mistakes happen it's time to call the experts at The Cleaner Image. We can minimize the damage that will occur if left untreated.

Subsurface Extraction Cleaning

If you do not want to pull the carpet and are confident that the sub floor is NOT heavily contaminated with pet urine, we offer the Subsurface Extraction in conjunction with OSR, a powerful oxidizer that removes both pet urine odors and pet urine discoloration, to remove pet urine from the carpet and pad.

This procedure is used in homes that have a concrete subfloor, if your home has a wood subfloor, then Molecular Modifier will need to be used. Molecular Modifier is the most powerful bacterial enzyme treatment available.

This is an example of a subsurface extraction, by saturating the soiled area we can liquify the dry soil and therefore extract it easier and quicker. The extraction tool is then placed over the area and by applying pressure all the liquid in the carpet and pad can be extracted out.
